Religious Education at Elms Farm School

RE at our school is led by Miss Morton.

' Watching students grow in curiosity, compassion, and confidence through RE is what makes this subject so powerful and rewarding to teach.'

Our Approach to Religious Education

At Elms Farm, we follow the Birmingham SACRE approach to Religious Education, which is rooted in the exploration of shared human values and lived experiences. This pedagogy encourages pupils to engage with a wide range of religious and non-religious worldviews through 24 key dispositions, such as “Being Thankful,” “Being Curious,” and “Living by Rules.” These dispositions help children reflect on their own beliefs and values while developing respect and understanding for others. Our RE curriculum is inclusive, reflective, and designed to nurture thoughtful, compassionate, and informed individuals.

Here are some examples of our work. We use a learning journey so that we can build upon what we have learnt about in each disposition.

Visit from SAMPAD

This October children in lower KS2  enjoyed a workshop delivered by SAMPAD all about Diwali. We listened to stories, made music and decorated clay lamps. We learn all about the people who celebrate Diwali and why the festival is so important to them.

Harvest visit from St. Thomas' Church

This week we had some visitors from St. Thomas' Church to tell us about Harvest. We learn the story of Ruth and how people were kind to her and God watched over her and her family. We thought about our right to food and water.

Eid workshop

This year we have enjoyed hosting our Eid workshops. Families from our community joined together to take part in arts and crafts and to learn a little more about the festival of Eid.
